Objective Assessments
At For All Counseling, we pride ourselves on providing objective mental health evaluations. Our therapists will not provide a diagnosis to a client unless the client meets the criteria outlined in the Diagnostic Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSMV-TR). In combination with their clinical judgment and DSM criteria, therapists utilize validated screening tools to support the accuracy of their evaluations. It is important to us that clients, lawyers, and the courts can trust in the accuracy and objectivity of our evaluations
What types of cases need a mental health evaluation?
- Waivers (I-601 and I-601A): An evaluation can be used to assess how the citizen or resident relative will be affected by separation from his/her family member
- VAWA and Spousal Abuse: An evaluation can be used to document abuse and assess the impact of emotional or physical abuse.
- Cancellation of Removal: The mental health of a qualifying citizen or resident relative can be evaluated to determine the potential effects that deportation would have on the qualifying relative's mental health. We have a certified play therapist who is trained to evaluate children for cases where a parent may be deported.
- U-Visa: When a client has been a victim of a crime, a mental health evaluation can be used to assess the client's mental health and how the crime affected the individual's mental health. This can be particularly useful in cases where the client has a trauma history, and the effects of the crime vs. other traumas needs to be assessed.
- T-Visa: For trafficking survivors, a mental health evaluation can be useful to document the history of trafficking as well as the mental health status of the individual before, during, and after their experience of being trafficked.
- Asylum: A mental health evaluation is helpful in assessing trauma, the mental health effects of the events that caused the person to apply for asylum, and how an individual’s mental health has/has not affected their ability to apply for asylum within one year of arriving in the United States.
