Mental Health Evaluations for Immigration Law
Objective Assessments and Expert Testimony for Thorough Legal Proceedings
What is an Immigration Evaluation?
An immigration evaluation is a specialized psychosocial assessment designed to provide important evidence for immigration cases and answer specific psycho-legal questions.. It goes beyond a mental health assessment, exploring the complex interaction of factors that influence an individual’s well-being and factors specific to immigration cases. Our work helps ensure that mental health factors are acknowledged, providing legal professionals with important insights necessary to present a comprehensive understanding of a client’s situation.

How Our Evaluations Support Various Immigration Cases
Mental health evaluations can offer valuable insights across a range of immigration cases. We provide comprehensive psychosocial evaluations for adults and children physically present in Nebraska and Iowa. These are the types of immigration cases our evaluations support:
These evaluations assess the extreme hardship that a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident relative would experience if their loved one were denied entry or deported. We thoroughly document the psychological impact of this potential separation or denial, encompassing emotional, psychological, financial, and medical factors.
For immigrant survivors of domestic violence, our evaluations focus on assessing the psychological impact and emotional distress resulting from intimate partner violence.. We document the history of violence its effects on the survivor’s mental health, and any resulting conditions such as PTSD, anxiety, or depression.
In cases where individuals face deportation, our evaluations assess the psychological impact that the applicant’s deportation would have on qualifying U.S. citizens or lawful permanent resident relatives.
For victims of qualifying crimes, our evaluations document the mental health consequences resulting from criminal victimization. This includes assessing trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and other psychological effects, providing important evidence of the harm experienced.
For victims of human trafficking, our evaluations assess the psychological impact experienced as a result of being trafficked. We document the history of exploitation, resulting mental health conditions, and the impact of this trauma on the individual’s well-being and functioning.
In asylum cases, our evaluations focus on documenting the psychological impact of past persecution and the ongoing fear of future harm. This can include assessing for PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression, and other mental health conditions resulting from traumatic experiences and ongoing stress.
For applicants seeking an exception to U.S. citizenship English and/or civics requirements due to a physical or mental disability, our evaluations involve a thorough assessment of the applicant’s medical condition and its impact on their ability to learn and demonstrate knowledge of English and/or civics. We provide a professional opinion on the existence and severity of the disability and its connection to the applicant’s learning capacity.
