Ensuring Equitable Access to Mental Health Support

At For All Counseling, we are founded on the principle that financial barriers should never prevent an individual from accessing essential mental health support during their immigration or asylum process. We recognize that many of our clients navigate profound hardships, and we are committed to providing affordable, high-quality evaluations through our sliding fee and “Pay What You Can” programs.

About Our Sliding Fee Program

We believe that a reduced fee should never mean a reduction in quality. Our sliding scale is an objective, formula-based system designed to remove bias and ensure every client is treated with the same level of integrity. By using a structured percentage-based calculation against our standard evaluation rate, we provide a transparent and predictable path for both clients and legal professionals to plan for the evaluation process.

Eligibility Criteria

To determine your eligibility and personalized fee, we utilize a transparent, formula-based sliding scale system. This framework is designed to ensure our evaluations remain accessible to individuals and families across all income levels. By adjusting costs based on financial capacity, we ensure that those with limited resources pay a proportionally smaller fee while maintaining a sustainable, high-quality service for everyone in our community.

Household Size

Household Size

We assess the total number of individuals residing in your home, including yourself, a spouse or partner, dependent children, and any others you financially support. This number is compared to the U.S. Federal Poverty Guidelines established by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Because these guidelines are updated annually and vary by family size, this step ensures your fee is based on your specific family needs and responsibilities.

Annual Income

We consider your total gross annual household income from all sources before taxes are deducted. To account for the actual cost of living in our region, we multiply the standard Federal Poverty Guideline by 225% to create a localized "income benchmark." This adjustment provides a more realistic and equitable threshold, ensuring that our sliding scale reflects the true economic circumstances faced by families.

Percentage

Your total gross annual income is divided by your localized income benchmark to determine your "income percentage." This number represents where your household falls relative to the adjusted poverty threshold. For example, if your adjusted benchmark is $50,000 and your actual annual income is $25,000, your income percentage is 50%. This percentage serves as the fair, objective basis for calculating your personalized reduction in fees.

Final Calculation

Finally, your income percentage is applied to our standard base evaluation fee of $1,000 to determine your final cost. The lower your percentage, the more significant your fee reduction will be. For instance, a 50% income level results in a $500 fee. While we maintain a minimum fee to support client engagement in the process, this formula ensures that every individual pays a rate that is truly proportionate to their financial capacity.

The Sliding Fee Calculator

To enhance transparency and accessibility, we partnered with the College of Information Science & Technology at the University of Nebraska Omaha to develop this intuitive digital tool. This calculator allows you to instantly determine your personalized fee estimate based on our equitable sliding scale. By integrating technology with our mission, we provide a clear and immediate understanding of your costs, ensuring that financial planning never stands in the way of your mental well-being or legal support.

Preguntas Frecuentes

We’ve gathered answers to common questions to help you understand our
Sliding Fee Scale, eligibility, and financial assistance options. Please review the
following FAQs for more information.

What is the Sliding Fee Scale Program?

The Sliding Fee Scale (SFS) program is a system we use to make our mental health evaluation fees more affordable. It adjusts the cost of our services based on your household size and annual household income. This means that individuals and families with lower incomes may pay a reduced fee compared to our standard rate. Our goal is to ensure that financial constraints do not prevent anyone from accessing the mental health support they need.

Using our Sliding Fee Calculator is simple and confidential. Just enter the total number of people in your household (including yourself and anyone you financially support who lives with you) in the “Household Size” field. Then, enter your total gross annual household income (before taxes) in the “Annual Household Income” field. Click the “Calculate Fee” button, and the tool will provide you with an estimated evaluation fee based on the information you provided and our sliding fee scale.

Eligibility for the Sliding Fee Scale is primarily determined by two factors: your household size and your total gross annual household income. We compare your household size to the current Federal Poverty Guidelines and then calculate an adjusted income benchmark. Your income is then compared to this benchmark to determine a percentage, which is used to calculate your adjusted fee. Our system is designed to be equitable, ensuring that those with greater financial need receive a larger reduction in fees.
